After the 1992 Nationals Sidecar Willy took Wee Bee Bad and toured the north for the summer. He attended AM JAM, Laconia and Americade always hyping the sport of Unicycle drag racing to anyone who would listen. While in New York he was introduced to Nelson Back a machinest Nelson listened intently as Willy explained the rules and said he would come to Florida to attend the 93 race. Apon his return to Florida Willy began construction of a new Beast known as the" LONGHORN DEER" it would be powered by a 400cc Honda automatic which spun a huge bar lug implement tire. Two large water skies provided a wide platform in the rear for the pilot to eject from should the need arise. The Eagles Nest a local bar provided the location for the next event which would take place over three days during Bikeweek. |

On Wednesday as Sidecar was positioning his Beasts in the pits old Shit -N- Get Scheskie as he was now known pulled in sporting a beautifully engineered Beast on its own color coordinated trailer. It was known as the ONE EYED, ONE WHEELED, FLYING PURPLE HOG EATER which may have been a little presumptuous as it only sported a 200CC Honda twinstar engine. Several other design features were quite noticeable, including a big red knobby, triple shock absorbers, shifting and the ability to steer. The motto of a true Unimotorcyclists was emblazoned on the machine and proudly stated; "from sick minds cum sick" products. |

In the pits the team of Hawkins and Earnst were unloading the first electric beast ever constructed. Propulsion was provided by a 3hp-220volt well pump motor with direct chain drive to a motorcycle wheel. Power was supplied by a 6kv 220volt generator which was connected to the beast by a 100ft coil of Romex wire. While testing the Beast in a rain storm, it became enraged and sent a blue lightning bolt from its plastic handle bar switch to a track official who had been assisting, and a bizarre dance ensued between the track official and the blue bolt until some quick thinking person slew the evil generator releasing the official from its grasp. Not able to find a pilot within 150miles who wished to risk a repeat of this experience the owners withdrew from the competition vowing to return next year. |

The Oakwater racing team of Tom, Al, Jim, Brian, Darik, and Cindy (their high speed babysitter) arrived with their Beast known as BRAINDEAD. It sported a full knobby tire powered by a 750cc Honda engine. The body panels were reminiscent of a German panzer tank. The pilot sat to the rear with legs facing forward and utilized rear steering via a bellcrank assembly. The pilot were kept from launching forward by the upturned exhaust system which coincided with the pilots forehead. |

You certainly know when Swamp and his Pit Crew from Hell arrive. This is the man that everyone comes to see, a visual icon of the Harley generation. This year he claimed to have worked out the steering problems with his Beast the SWAMP SPECIAL and had invested $20 in a new Tera Flex tire along with about another $800 in beer. During the two days of time trials no matter how well the mighty Sportster engine ran or how well their Tera Flex grabbed they were unable to best their own world record of 3.75sec in the Unliminated class. So I think it says much to the riding skills of Swamp who was able to continually adjust his C/G forward while upping his Budweiser intake until a perfect blend of Pilot and wheel emerged on the final run of the final day to establish a new record in A class of 3.60sec. |

Remember that guy Nelson who said he would come to the race well he and his brother Jeff traveled all the way from N.Y. to compete with their Beast the JUNKYARD DOG. Powered by a 400cc snowmobile engine on a 2ft wide garden tractor tire this Beast was unique. The frame was pop riveted aluminum and had rear steering via pulley and cable. Two snowmobile skies in the front allowed for braking. When first tested this machine turned a time of only 6.60sec. which brought a lot of good natured ribbing to these men from the north," Nice touring unicycle" people yelled. But these guys had come to race and were about to teach the Florida boys a thing or three. As everyone drank they tore their Beast apart and changed gearing. As everyone partied they scrounged parts and hand made head gaskets. As everyone boasted and bragged they tested and retested which eventually paid off Friday at the Grand Nationals with a new World record of 3.20sec. and more embarrassingly on a B class machine which showed that biggest is not always best. |

To establish these World Records requires much beer, riding skill, good natured attitudes, and respect between the pilots. To allow the pilots their moment of adrenalin rush requires the work of many people who believe in what they do. One of the more important people is their head track official the Baltimore Hobo who keeps them supplied in gas, batteries, beer, food and an accurate record of where they are and what the fuck is going on. |

The sport had now captured the attention of the worlds leading motorcycle publications from Easyriders to Supercycle to the front cover of Mr Bike in Japan the world press was singing the praises of these brave men and of the new sport of Unicycle Drag Racing . But to Willy and Swamp the ultimate was to be included in the official collector cards of Daytona Beach Bikeweek. |
